Upcoming Events

Yowsas, things are starting to heat up at BFC – some days I think we have too many irons in the fire (can there really be such a thing? Naw!!). And seemingly it’s been nonstop meetings and proposals lately. The next few weeks are slated to be pretty nuts, and that’s fine by us… Aaron’s wrapping up the Passive House Academy‘s THERM training – look for his first* post summarizing this experience. Tonight he stated, “It’s great working with people who know what they’re talking about.” Mike’s been co-opted by Architects Without Borders (again) for a potentially interesting project at the insanely impressive elevation of 17,000 sf. The project was initiated by Engineers Without Borders, so I think a good collaboration will be shortly underway. In case you’re interested, I believe the site is located somewhere right around… here:

Also slated for next week, I’m giving presentations on CLT at the UW and PH Seattle – so that should reignite the desire to rock out a cross laminated timber Passivhaus (now just to convince the right clients – hint, hint: we’ve already designed one!) – and Aaron’s off to Vermont for a side project. Shortly thereafter, I’m off to Hanover to hang out with the other PH nerds at the International Conference. So we should have a few interesting things to throw on the blog in the next month. Blog fodder – hooray!

And so, a few upcoming events on our calendars…

4/19: PH Drinks
Elysian Brewery (Cap Hill) at 7.30
Come meet the PH community in Seattle as we discuss random topics/gossip and partake in some community brewing building.

4/21-4/22: NW Ecobuilding Guild’s 2nd Annual Green Homes tour
various locations
10.00AM – 4.00 PM, free – more info here
None of the projects this year really intrigue me, design-wise – though I am thinking of checking out YS Development’s Bellevue Project as well as Sage Saskill’s German Prefab by Huf Haus. Unfortunately, these are on the east side, so if anyone wants to carpool – shoot me an email.

4/25 Passive House Seattle, my massivholz presentation
6532 Phinney Ave N, Phinney Neighborhood Center – Room 3
5:30-7:00 PM, members free/$3 donation
This will be a redux of the CLT/Brettstapel presentation I gave at the Ecobuilding Guild Retreat last year.

5/04 – 5/06, 16th Annual International Passivhaus Conference
Hanover
(DE)
Won’t be live tweeting this (I don’t think…) but should come back with an assortment of drool-worthy products/photos that US manufacturers unfortunately won’t be stepping over themselves to create here…

5/15: Passivhaus Case Studies: the thermos v. the lantern (by yours truly)
12.00-1.00 PM, more info forthcoming

5/17: Dorte Mandrup
Architecture Hall 147, University of Washington

5/24: Weiss|Manfredi – “Dual Natures”
Architecture Hall 147, University of Washington
6.30 PM, free

Happy Thanksgiving!

Things have been crazy here lately, but we wanted to drop a quick Happy Thanksgiving to the 12 U.S. readers of our blog (and a belated Thanksgiving for all 5 of you Canadians).

We’re especially thankful for our families, friends and the opportunity to cause a little hell raising every once in a while.

We’re also grateful for our ridiculously progressive clients for entertaining our Passivhaus fetishes. Late last night, we received a great note from a crazy guy we’ve become good friends with over the last year.

…And in the true spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to share that I’m thankful for meeting you this year! The older I get the more I appreciate and can recognize “good people” and you and Aaron are “good people!”

And I’m looking forward to next year, having some fun and making the most kick ass, passivhaus project in the world!

 Happy Thanksgiving!

-T

Have a great and safe Thanksgiving.

Cheers, and enjoy a little revenge of the Thanksgiving dinner!

linkage oversight

It was recently brought to my attention (thanks, James…) that we were missing a link to another terrific, local resource - space.city.

Space.city is a Seattle non-profit dedicated to architecture, urbanism and the arts. They’ve hosted some terrific architecture lectures (at least since I moved here) – including Bjarke Ingels, Mathias Klotz and Werner Sobek.

Space.city maintains a fairly relevant design calendar, so be sure to check it out or get on their email list. And James, the link has now been added…
